Early Childhood Study

The occasion was the signing ceremony for phase 2 of a national birth cohort study of Jamaican children which will evaluate the early childhood learning environments that impact the nation’s children. The study, which will be funded by the IDB, is being undertaken by Samms-Vaughn and a team from the department. The first phase of the study, which was conducted in 2011, focused on child growth and development and included every baby born in Jamaica between July 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011.

Caribbean Youth Speak

The team from The UWI, Mona Campus pose for the camera after participating via video link in a recent youth symposium hosted by the The UWI, Cave Hill Campus. The symposium, which was held under the theme, “Caribbean Youth Speak: The World We Want Post-2015”, gave students the opportunity to voice their concerns to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. Students from the St Augustine Campus also participated via video link. The Secretary General was in Barbados for the 36th Caricom Heads of Government Summit.
