As Jamaica celebrates 55 years of independence this year there is a lot to be thankful for.
Independence is a time for us to reflect on our past accomplishments and refocus our collective efforts on where we want to go.
As a small nation of fewer than three million people we should be proud that we continue to make such a positive mark on the world. Our phenomenal athletes continue to bring glory to this country without fail. Jamaica’s influence on the world of music, art, culture, politics and food is not too shabby either, as our sons and daughters – first, second and third generations – continue to make their presence felt.
We have managed to build a successful brand, despite the odds. And therefore, as we pause this week to observe both Emancipation Day and Independence Day, let us focus on the positives. Let us celebrate our long list of accomplishments and try to build on them going forward. Let’s strive to make Jamaica even greater!
